Opinions Please
I’ve been messing about with new designs for my blog. Presently it uses an old version of wordpress which is a little limited in the things it can do and the cool functions I can include.
Also, I feel the current design is a little hard to read.
So I’m working on some ideas for a new design. Maybe you could suggest what you think of my current ‘mess about’? If you like it … great. If you don’t, I’ll try something else.
http://www.stevetierney.org/blog is where you’ll find my current attempt.
Any comments appreciated.

The right hand side of the screen is very empty looking… Apart from that very nice indeed.
The addition of “with a Conservative flourish’ is good, but I agree with Gary Tibbs, about the white space. Just means yet more scrolling down. Probably O.K. for the mobile phone generation, but for old f*rts like me, brought up reading print on paper, it gets tedious.
Anyway it’s the content we enjoy not the wrapping paper. If it’s not broke ….
Keep up the good work. The number of hits you are receiving is in a large part due to the quality of your writing (much better than the Martian’s smug self promotion), but I wonder if it also reflects a general need for a wider forum in the Fens.
Moderator (Steve Tierney)’s Comments: There are technical reasons why I’d like to move to the new version right now – the longer I leave it the harder it will get to do later. But I’ve had a few comments that the old site is “hard to read” and so I the redesign was to address that, making the test brighter and clearer and the site look more “clean”. In regards to the space on the right hand side – that’s because you are using a high resolution monitor. Most people do these days, but there are still people browing the web on old dinosaur machines who would see the page full rather than empty. Also, I suspect you are viewing the site on “maximise”? If you click the “restore down” button (next to the big red X top right of screen) you’ll see how the page looks when viewed that way (again, no white space.) Trouble with modern web design is you have to try and think your way around all the various permutations of usage and equipment.
